Lutheran Women of Good Shepherd (LWGS) is affiliated with Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), a national & international organization. Our mission work extends from our homes to our church, our community, our state, our country and the world. We try to reflect our Lord Jesus through who we are and what we do.
Our LWGS programs of service help people from birth through death. Some services are baby layettes for the needy and the hospital, providing supplies for our church kitchen, purchasing carpet in our church, as well as new office chairs for Pastor. We helped purchase office equipment, a new television for a shut in and currently offer Christian cards and napkins at cost. We help support our local CareNet Crisis Pregnancy Center, providing meals for new baby families, the sick and funerals.
To make programs possible involves fundraisers: Candy and nut sales and catering church dinners. Our mission programs include collecting Campbell soup labels and canceled postage stamps which generate items for the mentally challenged. Each woman has a mite box in which she puts coins and paper money, these mites are dedicated to God and become powerful tools in the hands of dedicated missionaries. They use the mites to drill wells for fresh, clean water, help inner-city day cares, build bridges, equip hospitals, build churches and schools, teach better farming techniques and teach women better health habits all over the world.
The added plus is we share a fellowship of loving our Lord Jesus and showing it to others all the while we sing, pray, laugh, and share one another's joys and challenges.
All ladies of our church are members and encouraged to be active. The monthly meetings are the 2nd Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Bible study starts our meetings with dessert being served during the meeting.
